The role of  Data Scientist – Feature Engineer  is to help discover information hidden in vast amounts of data and wrangle & engineer that information into predictive & meaningful features for the Data Science, AI, and Analytics Chapters to access to help make smarter decisions & deliver even better outcomes for our customers. The key focus of the role will be on the rapid expansion & production delivery of features into the Optus Customer 360, or Unified Analytics Record (UaR). In particular, identifying new ways to quickly engineer features or explore new sources of data previously untouched for their ‘feature value’ in terms of understanding customer behavior will be paramount. Position Summary Mobile Data Core Engineering is accountable for the strategic planning, design, and delivery of the Mobile Data Core Network, including the evolution to the 5G core. The successful candidate will be required to act as a project prime, being responsible for all technical components around the network design of the project including the scoping, design, testing, documentation and all steps required for the successful implementation in the production network. The position requires an excellent knowledge of packet core and virtualization technologies with the ability to accurately document network designs and deploy network configurations in production. The role requires the ability to generate solution designs independently and to review the designs completed by others. Knowledge in EPC and virtualization is essential. This role represents the senior engineering position within the Mobile Data Engineering team. As such, the position requires the candidate to be a subject matter expert. They should be able to operate under limited supervision and be able to provide leadership to the more junior engineers. It is expected that this person would seek guidance and support from the management only as required.  This role requires skills needed to interface with multiple groups within Optus and to manage contractors & vendors to ensure the successful delivery of projects. Key Responsibilities Platform ownership for Mobile Data Core, entailing life cycle management, capacity management, platform architecture and evolution, and capital management associated with the platform (including tendering, benchmarking, and Business case submission). Strategic Planning, design and evolution/transition of the Mobile Data Core from a Native based network to a fully virtualized and scalable/sliceable network. Own and manage the preparation, execution, and reporting of the AOP planned activities and budget requirements. Prepare capital submissions to support planned network activities. Ensure systems/platforms are planned, designed, deployed, operated and maintained to Optus’ business requirements, technical specifications and the relevant Optus design standards. Accountable to ensure platform capacity utilization does not exceed agreed Engineering thresholds, and that required capacity is delivered within the stipulated lead times, and as per forecasts. Accountable to ensure that platform performance is consistently maintained within agreed tolerance limits and drive quick recovery in the event of any degradation of service levels. Drive the development of platform roadmaps, architecture and evolution plans (0-3 year) by working with the architecture teams and actively provide inputs to 3+ year plans. Develop well-prepared, accurate engineering network design documentation. Act as a Subject Matter Expert for the relevant technology area. Perform assessment of existing network elements and implement design updates as required to ensure all network components meet the network design specifications. Keep abreast of technology and develop appraisal reviews where applicable. Specify, define, and document design processes, standards and practices related to the packet core data network to ensure engineering best practices are maintained. Interface to co-ordinate and resolve network design and/or process-related issues. Experience and Qualifications A technical qualification (degree) in Telecommunications Engineering (or related Engineering discipline) or equivalent. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in telecommunications. At least 3 years’ experience in a platform design/operation role. Packet core and probe platform experience. Product development and/or customer design experience. Experience in liaising with middle and senior management. Experience with network test tools/procedures. Good documentation skills. Experience in the telecommunications provider environment. Sound knowledge of virtualization technologies.
