Senior civil engineer

Job Description

We’re looking for a skilled Intermediate / Senior Civil Engineer to join a Waikato / Central North Island based team and lead civil design and delivery across land development, subdivisions, three‑waters, and infrastructure projects. Work with a team committed to strong engineering outcomes and a balanced work environment. This role suits a motivated Senior Civil Engineer who wants to contribute to meaningful local and regional projects. We work with local councils, government agencies, commercial and residential clients. Projects include water networks, civil infrastructure, transportation, pavements, inspections & testing, construction QA, contract management and more. You’ll work closely with our Technical Director, Project Managers and leadership team, and you’ll be the person the structural team can lean on for direction, review, and support. You’ll also be a key contact for clients - practical, straight up, and focused on fit‑for‑purpose outcomes. Key Responsibilities and Criteria: * Technical Experience • An industry recognised Civil Engineering Qualification with 7+ years of proven civil engineering experience with a strong understanding of New Zealand practice. • Chartered or actively working towards Chartership. • Strong technical capability in Land Development & Infrastructure Projects – as an all-rounded generalist or as a recognised specialist (3-Water, Transport, etc). • Strong knowledge of NZ standards (NZS 3910), industry guidelines and local codes. • Comfortable working across both office and site environments. * Leadership and Project Delivery • Lead structural deliverables across projects, with strong technical oversight. • Build trusted relationships with clients and key stakeholders. • Set and maintain high quality standards - clear calculations, tidy reporting and solid peer review. • Identify issues early and use sound engineering judgement to work through them with clients and project teams. • Contribute to proposals, resourcing decisions and improving how we work. • Proven ability to manage and deliver projects on time and within budget. * Team and Culture • A practical, team-first approach and a sense of humour. • Comfortable leading people, giving direction, and supporting others to grow. • Support and mentor engineers, helping lift capability across the team. • Foster a team environment focused on collaboration and quality outcomes. • Champion health, safety and integrity - for yourself and across the team.
