Maintenance Supervisor – 2nd Shift

Location: South Holland, IL
Shift: 2nd Shift | 6 days
Pay: $78,000–$88,000/year

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for supervising maintenance technicians, coordinating preventative maintenance programs, supporting equipment reliability, and ensuring production and facility systems operate safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will combine strong hands-on technical ability with leadership experience across mechanical, electrical, and processing equipment systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance activities across manufacturing lines, packaging equipment, and facility systems.
  • Lead, train, and develop maintenance technicians while supporting shift operations.
  • Assign and coordinate preventative maintenance work orders and repair priorities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment, conveyors, electrical systems, and processing machinery.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and vendors for maintenance projects and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, SQF, safety procedures, and Lockout/Tagout standards.
  • Maintain mechanical integrity programs for ammonia refrigeration systems and boilers.
  • Work closely with engineering and plant leadership on equipment upgrades and process improvements.
  • Develop and improve maintenance SOPs and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives, machine uptime improvements, and operational efficiency projects.
  • Maintain maintenance documentation, reports, and equipment records.
  • Assist with building maintenance and facility-related projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous maintenance leadership or supervisory experience within manufacturing environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and HVAC systems.
  • Experience with food processing and packaging equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, metal detectors, injectors, tumblers, shredders, vacuum packaging equipment, and barcoding systems.
  • Experience with AC/DC drives, air compressors, welding, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Refrigeration and Process Safety Management experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced production environments and lead by example on the floor.

  • Food manufacturing or meat processing
  • Preventative maintenance programs (PMs)
  • Ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Allen Bradley controls and industrial electrical systems
  • Packaging and processing equipment
  • GMP, SQF, OSHA, and Lockout/Tagout compliance

Working Environment

  • Cold manufacturing environment below 40°F
  • Standing for extended periods
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting
  • Overtime and weekend work required as needed
  • Fast-paced production environment
