Beckenham Hills Ltd is a progressive and diverse 2,600ha farming operation located on the north side of the Hurunui River, south of Cheviot. - The property winters approximately 18,000 stock units, including a Halfbred ewe flock, Hereford/Angus breeding cows, trading sheep and beef, and dairy support. - The business is currently going through an exciting growth phase, creating the opportunity for a new role within the team. - Built on strong team culture, clear communication, and well-structured systems, we are focused on creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work, feel valued within the team, and can grow and succeed. - We pride ourselves on running a sustainable and profitable farming business, while continuing to develop both our people and our farming systems. ________________________________________ The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Shepherd to join our team. - This role will suit someone who takes pride in their stock work, enjoys being part of an energetic and positive team environment, and is looking to contribute to a progressive farming business. - You will work closely alongside the Farm Manager and Senior Shepherd, playing an important role in the day-to-day operations and helping deliver high standards across the farming operation. - We embrace technology on farm and have recently installed Halter into the system, we also use Resolution, and other monitoring systems. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities • Stock work across sheep, beef, and dairy support systems • Grazing management and feed allocation • Pasture monitoring and input into farm planning • Stock movements and seasonal operations • General farm maintenance and infrastructure upkeep ________________________________________ About You • 2–3 years’ experience in shepherding roles with strong stockmanship and attention to detail • Competent with a team of 3+ well-controlled working dogs • A positive attitude and ability to work well within a team environment • Strong communication skills and willingness to contribute. • Genuine interest in progressive farming systems and continuous improvement ________________________________________ What We Offer • A supportive and motivated team environment with good people • Clear structure, planning, and communication across the business • A role with variety and responsibility across a diverse farming system • Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and skills • Tidy 3-bedroom cottage on farm by the Hurunui river (on the school bus route) • Strong focus on animal welfare and health & safety Located just 20 minutes from Cheviot, 35 minutes from Amberley, and 1 hour 20 minutes from Christchurch, Beckenham Hills offers an outstanding rural lifestyle, with access to hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation, and a strong local community. ________________________________________ Please contact us for a Full Information Pack, which includes more information about the business and an Application Form.
