Job Description:

The Director of Student Financial Services provides leadership and oversight for student financial services operations, including financial aid, student accounts, and related support functions. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable regulations while delivering efficient, student-centered services that support access, affordability, and student success.

The Director works collaboratively across departments to enhance service delivery, improve processes, and align financial services with institutional priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Administration

  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of Student Financial Services operations.
  • Establish goals and priorities aligned with organizational objectives and the strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support effective and efficient operations.
  • Continue a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the administration of financial aid programs, student accounts, and related services.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing of student financial transactions and aid.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and the student experience.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to student financial services.
  • Oversee preparation for audits, reporting requirements, and regulatory reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments.

Financial Aid Administration

  • Oversee the administration and distribution of financial aid programs, including grants, loans, and scholarships.
  • Monitor fund utilization and ensure appropriate stewardship of financial resources.
  • Support equitable access to financial aid and related resources.
  • Oversee data management and reporting functions related to student financial services.
  • Analyze data to inform decision-making, assess outcomes, and improve operations.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of internal and external reporting.

Staff Supervision and Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff within Student Financial Services.
  • Support hiring, training, and professional development.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment.

Collaboration, Partnerships & Outreach

  • Collaborate with internal departments to support student success initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison to external agencies, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Participate in institutional committees and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support outreach efforts, including financial literacy initiatives, workshops, and informational sessions.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to reduce barriers and enhance student access and persistence.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in student financial services, financial aid, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable financial aid regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

Experience in higher education.
Familiarity with enterprise systems used in student financial services (e.g., ERP or CRM platforms).
Experience with process improvement initiatives.
