Adjunct Faculty: Professional Portfolio Development for Engineering and Technology

Non-benefited position

SALARY: Minimum salary is $1,397 per credit hour. Actual salary is commensurate with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement.

PRO100A - Professional Portfolio Development for Engineering and Technology

Course Description: This course provides students with an opportunity to develop professional skills essential for success in STEM fields, including preparation for internships, research experiences, and entry-level employment. Students will explore career planning; practice job search strategies; and strengthen interview techniques with an emphasis on technical and professional communication. The course highlights teamwork, problem-solving, and ethical responsibility in STEM workplaces and global contexts. Each student will build a professional resume, develop a STEM-focused online career portfolio, and create a LinkedIn or similar digital presence to support networking and career development.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

North Shore Community College's Department of Engineering and Industrial Technology is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a Professional Portfolio development and Career Readiness for STEM course. This course prepares students for internships, research opportunities, and entry-level positions in STEM industries by developing professional communication, career planning, interviewing and workplace readiness skills. The ideal candidate will bring both experience working with community college students and industry knowledge to help students prepare a professional portfolio and strategies and tools to find, apply and interview for employment opportunities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach and facilitate a Professional Portfolio Development for STEM course with a focus on engineering, technology, and related fields.
  • Guide students in career exploration, resume and portfolio development, and job search strategies tailored to STEM industries.
  • Provide instruction on professional communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and interview techniques relevant to STEM careers.
  • Integrate industry perspectives and best practices to prepare students for internships, cooperative education, and employment.
  • Support students in developing an online career portfolio and professional digital presence (e.g., LinkedIn).
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that reflects the values of North Shore Community College.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback to promote student success.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with Community College Students to gain Career Readiness in STEM fields.
  • Experience working with students remotely using Zoom or similar platform.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with Blackboard
  • Experience working with employers on behalf of students.
