ABOUT THE POSITIONS AND THE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM AT NORMANDALE

The dental hygiene program at Normandale Community College is seeking one full-time faculty member. The individual selected for the position will provide student instruction in the classroom, lab, and clinical setting. We champion the development of our faculty and welcome applications interested in teaching in a community college with a dynamic and dedicated faculty. We are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Normandale dental hygiene students have the option to be dually admitted and enrolled at Metropolitan State University to provide access to a BSDH degree.

Normandale Community College is striving to achieve racial equity in educational outcomes. Teaching responsibilities will include:

  • Teach dental hygiene courses in a variety of formats that include traditional, alternative delivery methods, and virtual learning environments

  • Provide instruction in an inclusive and equitable manner to a diverse student body

  • Design and deliver instruction that incorporates technologies that advance learning

  • Provide quality instruction that incorporates a variety of current teaching techniques and pedagogies that positively impact the student and field of dental hygiene

  • Maintain ongoing professional development activities that support the college mission, the field of dental hygiene, and the student

  • Actively engage in college service, department activities, and student support

  • Participate in program review and/or accreditation efforts

  • Provide learning activities that promote interprofessional education and collaborative in the health sciences division

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor degree and a graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program

Occupational Experience Requirement

  • Three full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a dental hygienist

Recency Requirement

  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Professional Requirement

  • Current Dental Hygienist License from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.

Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement

  • course construction (credit course)*

  • teaching/instructional methods (credit course)*

  • student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course)*

  • philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)**

  • Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status.

*These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing, Part 5, Subpart B.2)

** This course shall be waived for individuals who, at the time of hire, have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing, Part 5, Subpart B.3)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in the field or in a related area from an accredited institution.

  • Instructional experience

  • Ability to incorporate technology into curriculum delivery to include online instruction and using web-based course management systems such as D2L

  • Knowledge of accreditation process

  • Experience with IPE curriculum development and implementation

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Flexibility to teach daytime, early evenings, or at an off-campus clinic

  • Experience serving diverse and underserved populations

  • Knowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes

  • Experience developing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized students

  • Experience using multi-modal approaches and student-centered pedagogy to meet the needs of first generation, immigrant, and low-income students
