Part-Time Speech/Language Pathologist

Job Description

The Speech-Language Pathologist evaluates, plans goals, and treats individuals with speech, swallowing and communication disorders. The Speech Therapist is an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Team providing an improved quality of life for the affected persons.

Primary Responsibilities And Essential Functions Of Position

  • Evaluates the degrees of function and disability of the patient.
  • Provides appropriate professional treatment in order to improve and/or sustain the patient’s functioning level and ability to communicate.
  • Provides original written evaluations to be places in the patient’s medical record, including the following information:
    • Date and signature
    • Patient’s medical history
    • Patient’s referring diagnosis
    • Patient’s secondary diagnosis
    • Present level of function of receptive expressive language skills and motor control
    • Prognosis and recommendations
  • Ensure that the patient’s physician and members of the Interdisciplinary Team are informed of the goals and expectations for the patient’s progress.
  • Provides written documentation of the patient’s response to treatment via speech-language pathology notes in the patient’s medical record to include the following:
    • Patient’s progress or lack of progress
    • Patient’s attitude toward treatment
    • Changes in goals if applicable
    • Signature
  • Correlates the patient’s treatment plan with members of the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Performs hearing screening on all new patients and upon referral
  • Undertake any additional tasks and initiatives within the scope of the role as per the specific needs of the programs and individuals and as assigned by the Supervisor/Clinic Director.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one-year experience as a certified licensed speech pathologist.
  • Holds Certificate of Clinical Competence (C.C.C) as a result of passing the national certification examination in speech pathology and having worked for paid professional services in the field of speech pathology for a minimum of nine months.
  • Holds a current license issued by New York State Department of Education to practice as a Speech Pathologist and is registered with the State of New York.
