The City of Lenexa-s Finance Department is seeking a Finance Intern for the summer of 2026.

Hiring Timeline

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are submitted. Applications will remain open until February 6th or until the position is filled.

Schedule

  • The Finance Department operates within Lenexa City Hall between 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • Internship dates are flexible, with an estimated duration from mid-May to mid-August.
  • Work a consistent on-site schedule of 24 to 40 hours per week, as mutually agreed upon between the candidate and Assistant Chief Financial Officer.

Position Summary

The Finance Intern supports finance operations and assists with key projects such as budgeting, financial reporting, and fixed asset management. This role offers practical experience in municipal finance and the opportunity to collaborate with various city departments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist accounts payable with purchase card coding and invoice entry.
  • Post journal entries, daily cash receipts, and reconciles accounts.
  • Assist with fixed asset inventory and management.
  • Assist with petty cash audits.
  • Contribute to the City-s Annual Operating Budget and 5-year Capital Improvement Program.
  • Review financial records for accuracy and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and current college coursework in Accounting or Finance.

The rate of pay is $17.00 per hour.

Physical And Environmental Factors

This position is based in an office setting and requires the ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing financial data.

Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
