Job Summary

A nationally recognized law firm is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney to join its Litigation practice in either the St. Louis or Chicago office. This role is ideal for an attorney with a strong background representing and counseling employers on a wide range of labor matters, including collective bargaining and labor-management relations.

The position offers the opportunity to work closely with highly experienced attorneys in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple labor and employment matters from inception through resolution
  • Represent employers in labor-related matters including collective bargaining negotiations, union elections, strikes, picketing, and organizing campaigns
  • Handle unfair labor practice cases before the NLRB
  • Provide strategic legal counseling to management on labor relations issues
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
  • Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and support staff
  • Contribute to business development efforts and client relationship management
  • Ensure high-quality legal work while meeting billable hour expectations
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to junior attorneys and support staff

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license and in good standing in Illinois or Missouri
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience practicing labor and employment law at a law firm
  • Strong experience with labor matters, including union relations and NLRB proceedings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Preferred Experience

  • Extensive experience advising employers on labor relations
  • Background in collective bargaining, labor disputes, and unfair labor practice litigation
  • Demonstrated interest in long-term career growth in litigation

Additional Information

  • Travel: Generally less than 10%, may vary by case
  • Work Environment: Office-based with prolonged computer use
  • Supervisory Role: Indirect supervision of junior staff

Compensation

Salary is competitive and dependent on experience, expertise, and bar admissions.
Estimated range (Chicago): $240,000 – $300,000 annually
