Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the New Beginnings Senior Center, the Group Water Fitness Instructor is responsible for lesson planning that facilitates a positive and growth driven learning environment. The primary function of the Instructor will be to maintain a safe and organized instructional environment for class participants.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Comfort with the older adult population.
- Embodying an outgoing and enthusiastic personality at all times.
- Strong customer service while enforcing all policies and procedures.
- Provide a high degree of member service through a professional relationship with the members in regards to their needs and concerns.
- Modify classes and routines according to the fitness level of class participants.
- Reporting to work in uniform a minimum of ten minutes prior to the assigned shift.
- Organizes and put away needed class equipment and also reports damaged equipment.
- Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance).
- Maintaining a safe and orderly instructional environment for all participants.
- Cleanliness of the pool area and instructional equipment.
Qualities and Qualifications:
- AEA or equivalent water aerobics certification.
- Aqua Zumba/Aerobics Certification a plus.
- Currently certified Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and their relationship to the development of water fitness instruction.
- Currently certified Water Safety Instructor.
- Minimum 1 year teaching experience.
- Being familiar with the facility Emergency Action Plan.
- Participating in continuing education activities through both internal and external sessions to promote an on-going development of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for instructors.
- Physical effort required for duties includes lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting, and prolonged standing/walking.
- Knowledge of safe and proper techniques in water aerobics.
- Must be CPR/AED Certified.
And one or two of the following:
- Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA).
- American Council on Exercise (ACE).
- Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).
- International Fitness Trainers Association (IFTA).
Salary: $75 per hour.
This is a part-time, in-person role, one day a week on Wednesdays from 1:30pm-2:30pm.
