Senior Administrative Assistant - Colorado Springs Airport

The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome a Senior Administrative Assistant to the Airport Operations team! As a Senior Office Specialist for the Colorado Springs Airport, you will perform a variety of clerical duties in support of Airport Operations such as obtain, validate and process various regulatory and security related background checks. This includes employee testing, work authorization verification, biographical information collection, and safeguarding, fingerprinting, employee vetting and issuance of airport identification badges in accordance with various local and federal governing requirements.

Job Type: Full-time; eligible for overtime hours/pay, when necessary

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00AM - 5:00PM. The position requires that you are available for emergency call out when necessary.

Pre-Employment Requirements: The selected candidate must pass (or have already passed) a fingerprint-based criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration.

As a Senior Administrative Assistant for the Colorado Springs Airport, you will:

  • Review and process the Airport identification badge/access media and fingerprint applications
  • Protect the privacy and security of personal information present during badging application process
  • Interpret TSA (Transportation Security Administration) and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations to ensure proper authorization and identification of Airport users
  • Assess situations quickly, objectively, and determine the proper course of action
  • Determine appropriate access level and issue correct level identifications in accordance with the TSA approved Airport Security Plan
  • Conduct security training and airfield driving classes for airport tenants, employees, and contractors ensuring compliance with TSA and FAA guidelines; incorporate new TSA and FAA guidelines into class curriculum
  • Ensure contractors meet proper insurance levels for accessing the Airport operations area
  • Ensure ground transportation providers meet requirements established by the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) and the Airport
  • Support other Airport Operation departments by performing assistant duties for irregular and emergency operations such as fire watches, escorts, and other duties deemed necessary for security and safety

Knowledge Of

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
  • Four years of professional, full-time airport operations, airport security, airport safety, or homeland security experience or in a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • College level coursework in Airport operations
  • One year experience in Airport operations, specifically experience with software used to maintain Airport access control
  • Experience working with regulatory guidelines of local and federal governing entities
  • Experience working with and maintaining confidential documents and information
  • Knowledge in the areas of criminal history record checks and management
  • Ability to demonstrate proficient experience with credentialing and/or identification software applications and advanced MS Office (Excel) level

Fiscal Responsibility: This classification prepares accounting, budget and employment actions, purchasing documents, and does research to justify language used in documents. May recommend budget allocations.
