Assistant Coach, Iowa Flyers Swim Club

Job Description

This position will assist with the operations and programming for the Recreational Services Iowa Flyers Swim Club program.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks

  • Coaching Swimmers
  • Program development and implementation,
  • Special event programming
  • Program scheduling
  • Supervision of part-time staff and/or volunteer staff


Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
  • Related Experience (typically a minimum of 1 year).
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques and ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Must be a current USA Swimming registered coach.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches certifications is required upon hire.
  • Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required within 3 months of hire.
  • Willingness to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards. Work requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and travel.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Advanced coaching experience (typically 2 years or more) with competitive swimmers of multiple age groups and ability levels in a USA Swimming, high school, or collegiate environment.
  • American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 1 or higher certification.
  • Experience using Team Unify swimming team management program.
  • Experience using Hy-Tek Meet Manager software.
  • Experience operating a swim timing system (i.e., Daktronics, Colorado Time System, Omega, etc.)
