Summary

In following the evidence-based practice of college health promotion, the Health Educator - Community Focus implements and participates in a comprehensive, interdisciplinary health promotion program for the diverse BGSU campus community. Using population-level prevention, they work to make the campus healthier by cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors, coordinating efforts amongst various university constituencies, and fostering a culture that values and supports a healthy community. They gather data to determine what health issues are most impacting the academic performance of BGSU students and collaborate with campus partners and health professionals to create interventions that address those issues. The Health Educator - Community Focus pursues external funding opportunities to support the work of the position and the Division of Community and Well-Being.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in designing, implementing and evaluating community of care initiatives for the BGSU student body. Coordinate and integrate community health prevention programs into the framework of health education offered by the BGSU Office of Health and Wellness and the Community of Care partners. Serve as a liaison between the Division of Community and Well-Being and the Division of Student Success and Engagement on Community of Care topics.. Write research/grant proposals for additional funding to support the work of the Division of Community and Well-Being.
  • Plan and coordinate the Division of Community and Well-Being programs and activities. Work with both on and off-campus partners to coordinate logistics of events and programs. Ensure compliance with University, Divisional, and Departmental policies and procedures. Ensure technology is used correctly for all operations.
  • Disseminate, and report on population-based assessments of health status, needs, and assets of students and environmental assessments of student health needs and resources. Assist in incorporating health assessment data into strategic planning initiatives. Develop proposals for programs and other interventions based on findings.
  • Produce health promotion materials and publications. Create and implement marketing and educational outreach programs to ensure that the promotion of physical/mental/emotional wellbeing is highly visible on campus.
  • Develop collaborative programs and working relationships with numerous constituencies on campus, including but not limited to Residential Life, Falcon Health Center, Athletics, Office of the Dean of Students, Student Engagement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, academic programs and student organizations. Collaborate with community agencies. Participate in community, and campus initiatives, as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
The following Degree is preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in health promotion, health education, community health, or related field. Master’s in Public Health, Health Education, College Student Personnel or related field.

The following Experience is required:

  • 6 months of health promotion or health grant writing experience

The following Experience is preferred:

  • 1 year in health promotion in a college health setting

Additional Information

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Grant writing experience (encouraged but not required)
  • Presentation and promotional skills
  • Ability to present on a variety of health and wellness information to a wide variety of people with broad backgrounds and experiences
  • Proficient with a variety of social media platforms
  • Knowledge of computer programs and design
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours
