Maternity Leave Optometrist

Northeast Family Eyecare is seeking a friendly, patient-focused Optometrist to provide maternity leave coverage in our growing, family-oriented practice — with potential opportunity to transition into an associate role following the maternity leave period. Maternity leave coverage is anticipated to begin in July and continue through the end of September 2026

Job Overview:

Northeast Family Eyecare is a well-established private practice in Fort Wayne Indiana. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate medical optometrist to join our private practice two to three days a week. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in both routine vision exams and medical optometry, along with strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and trust with patients.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Comprehensive Eye Exams:

  • Perform routine comprehensive eye exams on children and adults.
  • Prescribe glasses and contact lenses, including specialty lenses (multifocal and contact lenses for keratoconus).

2. Medical Management of Ocular Diseases:

  • Diagnose and treat anterior segment medical conditions including dry eye disease, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and corneal ulcers.
  • Diagnose and manage ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts.
  • Monitor and manage ocular effects of systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and autoimmune conditions.
  • Co-manage pre- and post-operative Lasik and Cataract patients.
  • Our clinic is equipped with a Humphrey VF, Zeiss OCT and DRS Fundus photo to support treatment and care of our patients.

3. Administrative and Practice Management:

  • Maintain accurate patient records using Crystal EHR.
  • Prompt and proper correspondence with referring doctors.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient encounters, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school.
  • Indiana State licensure to practice optometry.
  • Strong knowledge of ocular diseases, vision correction, and medical optometry.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage patient load efficiently in a private practice setting.
