GENERATOR TECHNICIAN (Seasonal)

Live and work in lakes country this summer! Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC) is a member-owned electric utility serving more than 30,000 member-consumers in the counties of Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas, Clay, and Becker (service territory). We are currently seeking candidates for full or part-time, seasonal generator technician position.

Our energy services team takes our vision of guiding usage of energy wisely to a different level. They offer products and services beyond standard electrical power lines. This summer job (hours may extend as available), will be a part of the energy services team, providing service to customers who have generators. Position will partner, learn, and execute installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on generators or other products, in accordance with each customer’s service agreement. Preventive maintenance work involves a series of routine checks and actions to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This includes oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks, battery maintenance, and electrical system inspections which are primarily performed outside. May have the opportunity to participate in the installation of ground mount solar arrays on member properties.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and any relevant knowledge or experience in small engines.
  • Must be 18yrs of age and able to pass a MN-DOT physical, due to the requirement to use power driven hoisting & loading apparatuses and motor vehicles to load and transport equipment.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
  • Professional, helpful, and courteous written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the desire for continuous learning and development.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
  • Perform proactively, take initiative, and follow through on all tasks and communication.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail.
  • Ideal standard work hours, Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM; willing to be flexible, as needed.
  • Requires successful completion of pre-employment screening which may include a physical examination, drug screening, background check, reference check, and motor vehicle record check as applicable to the position.

LREC offers a generous compensation package. The pay range for this position will be $20 - $22.00 per hour. Job offer rates are determined based on the candidate’s specific education, experience, knowledge, skills, and in alignment with market data.
