Job Description

Seeking highly motivated undergraduate engineering students to join the St. Louis County Department of Transportation & Public Works team for paid internships.

This will be an invaluable experience which will provide hands-on engineering experience. Positions will be opening in a variety of areas including bridge/culvert inspection and design, roadway planning and development, roadway construction, material testing, roadway maintenance and traffic operations. Interns will receive training, guidance and mentorship from experienced engineers and staff.

The work schedule for the Interns is flexible and will allow up to 40 hours per week during the summer with start and end dates which will correspond with school schedules. Internships will also be available for a variety of hours within the school year. The salary for this position will be between $16.39 - $20.65 hourly and will depend on the Intern's qualifications.


Examples of Duties

Essential Function Examples

  • Complete structural inspections of County culvert and bridges
  • Assist with quantity calculations for planning purposes for future County projects
  • Participate in site visits for active construction projects
  • Update various department publications and manuals

Minimum Qualifications

Summer Engineering Aide I:

  • Completion of one year of college course work in Architecture or Engineering.
  • Preferred candidates will have a valid driver's license.
Summer Engineering Aide II:
  • Completion of two years of college course work in Architecture or Engineering.
  • Preferred candidates will have a valid driver's license.
