Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:The Caceres Lab in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM) is accepting applications for a productive and result-oriented postdoctoral associate. The individual will perform different in vitro and in vivo assays to better understand the pathogenesis and viral-host interactions of Influenza A virus and other viral pathogens relevant for animals and humans. In addition, the individual will develop novel vaccine approaches for different animal viruses, including PRRSV and IBV. The individual will evaluate novel antiviral therapies against the Influenza A virus. The individual will also actively participate in the generation of research manuscripts and reports, as well as in mentoring personnel in the Caceres Lab. The work will be performed in state-of-the-art labs with advanced equipment and facilities in Ames, IA, and collaborative institutions across the US.
Required Minimum Qualifications:- PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts, reports, and other technical or scientific documents.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience handling animals.
- Experience working with influenza A virus assays in vitro
- Experience characterizing novel viruses in vitro.
- Experience in processing samples from the field or experimental studies involving animals
Department/Program & College Description:The College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine, has a three-tiered mission of teaching, research, and service that is supported by a highly productive faculty, energetic graduate students, and the additional expertise of adjunct faculty. Our research focuses on improving animal health, public health, and food safety. Our faculty have instructional responsibilities in bacteriology, immunology, virology, microbiology, epidemiology, and public health.
