High School Social Studies Teacher
POSITION STATUS: Full-Time, 10-Month
REPORTS TO: Principal
Loyola High School of Detroit is a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition. The focus of our mission is to prepare young men for high school graduation, college acceptance, and future contributions to family and community as “Men for Others, Men for Detroit.”
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, prepare, and implement creative lessons that are aligned to the Michigan Merit Curriculum.
- Teach five classes per week, 1 lunch period and 1 planning period.
- Effectively manage the classroom through developing relationships with students, yet holding them accountable when expectations are not met.
- Teach and develop student skills and processes.
- Demonstrate instructional practices that engage students in conceptual thinking, promote problem solving and creativity, and challenge students to achieve high standards of content mastery.
- Communicate with parents when students' grades fall below 60%.
- Communicate with parents when behavioral expectations are not met.
- Take ownership for student academic progress and show an active interest in student achievement.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction, adapting delivery to meet the needs of students with varying academic skill levels.
- Communicate timely and effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Collaborate with staff and other professionals to plan lessons and meet student needs.
- Update gradebook each pay period.

- Understanding of Ignatian pedagogy and commitment to Jesuit values.
- Familiar with the Michigan Merit Curriculum.
- Excellent interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and inspire a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
- Familiarity with educational technology and data-driven decision-making.
- High enthusiasm for the mission of Loyola High School.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in the subject area and Michigan teaching certification is required.
- Pathway to certification with a date of completion within two years.
