Job Summary
This is a ground-floor opportunity to join a small, high-performing team building modern data infrastructure at an oil and gas company. You will work directly with the CTO on a digital transformation effort, building new systems from the ground up using tools like Python, Prefect, Power BI, Spotfire, React and AI-assisted development.
The Data Engineer Architect will support data operations across QB Energy, handling both day-to-day data tasks and contributing to larger engineering projects. Responsibilities will include database queries, reporting, spreadsheet automation, vendor coordination, and full stack application development—including React-based data capture and reporting tools. This is a fast-paced, lean environment where you will be expected to learn quickly, take ownership with minimal oversight, and actively build solutions from day one.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Data Operations:
Our team uses AI-assisted development extensively. We use Claude Code to build applications, write queries, and accelerate routine work. But we don't blindly trust AI output—we review code critically, run tests manually, and maintain control over what touches production systems.
To be effective here, you need to understand what the AI is building well enough to catch mistakes, ask better follow-up questions, and know when to stop and think before executing. This means having real foundational knowledge—not just the ability to copy and paste prompts.
