JOB TITLE: Full-Time Recreational Lead Chef

REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is seeking a Recreational Lead Chef to oversee its Recreational and Events Division and the general operations of its New York Campus. ICE is one of America’s leading centers for culinary education and the largest culinary school in New York City and Los Angeles. The Lead Chef is a key member of our operations team and reports directly to our Senior Vice President. This driven culinary professional should thrive in a highly respected hospitality environment. Success in this role requires proven prior success in providing a high-quality culinary experience within a complex culinary operation.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach in-person and virtual recreational classes, including nights and weekends
  • Obtain teaching license for career classes and teach as needed
  • Act as a Manager on Duty for opening or closing shifts of the school
  • Develop and maintain the overall standards for the program
  • Daily monitoring/supervision of Recreational Classes and operations
  • Assist in supervision and lead the training of Culinary Operations Assistants for the Recreational Program
  • Maintain ICE kitchen standards across all programs
  • Stay current with industry trends in order to determine/develop new classes
  • Lead recreational class development, menu creation, recipe testing and costing
  • Collaborate in the analysis and scheduling of recreational classes
  • Periodic responsibilities serving as ambassador for VIP chefs, special events and marketing
  • You also may be assigned additional duties/responsibilities by ICE.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Culinary/Pastry diploma and/or some form of formal Culinary Education
  • Minimum of 7 years culinary experience, preferably with management and administrative experience
  • Proficiency in both culinary and pastry a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years recipe editing and writing
  • Must have availability to work nights and weekends
  • True and demonstrated passion for multiple dimensions of the culinary universe
  • Previous teaching experience preferred
  • Experience in service business operations a plus
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and proficient at multi-tasking
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Existing contacts in the NYC culinary community is a plus!

PAY: $70,000 to $80,000 dependent on skills and experience
