Position Qualification

Position Summary
The Physical Therapy Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center
(UNMC), within the College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP) Department of
Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, seeks a dynamic faculty member with broad clinical expertise and experience in research and service. This is a 12-month, tenure-eligible appointment with an option for clinical practice. We are seeking a dynamic faculty member with a broad range of clinical expertise and a strong commitment to excellence. The position includes responsibilities in teaching, scholarly activity, service, and offers an option for clinical practice.
It is the responsibility of the faculty member during their time of employment to:

I. Education/Teaching:
ꞏ Teach physical therapy content in areas of expertise with adaptability to accept teaching assignments in other entry-level content areas.
ꞏ Engage in the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the physical therapy curriculum to ensure high-quality educational outcomes and alignment with accreditation standards
ꞏ Mentor and advise students.
ꞏ Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and colleagues in team-taught courses.
III. Research/Scholarly Activity:
ꞏ Maintain or establish a successful research/scholarly activity agenda that aligns with the program’s mission.
ꞏ Mentor professional students participating in or collaborating with the faculty’s scholarly agenda.
IV. Service/Administration:
ꞏ Engage with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and colleagues in service and governance activities for the Program, College, University, community, and profession.
V. Clinical Practice

The premier Office of Faculty Development and the Interprofessional Academy of Educators provide mentorship for the scholarship of teaching and learning, accessible to faculty at any stage of their career.
The Kearney campus offers state-of-the-art classrooms, simulation and clinical skills laboratories, and collaborative learning spaces supporting multiple health professions programs, with a distinct emphasis on rural and underserved communities and serving as a regional extension of the Davis Global Center’s simulation and educational technology capabilities
The Omaha campus features state-of-the-art classrooms, simulation and clinical skills laboratories, and collaborative learning spaces supporting multiple health professions programs, as well as a recording and production studio staffed to assist faculty in creating digital learning products and dissemination media. The Davis Global Center further enhances these capabilities through advanced simulation technology, specialized resources, and personnel dedicated to developing interactive educational technologies.

Research and scholarly resources on both campuses are designed to support both novice and experienced researchers. A dedicated Clinical Research Center, staffed with research nurses and a core laboratory, assists faculty with inpatient and outpatient studies. Faculty also have access to the Clinical and Translational Research Support fund, enabling them to acquire pilot data for grant submissions and numerous Core Facilities across multiple University of Nebraska facilities.
The UNMC Center for Collaboration on Research Design and Analysis (CCORDA) provides faculty with expertise in quantitative sciences, covering planning, analysis, and interpretation of research findings. Our academic health sciences campus has extensive collaborative research and scholarly opportunities, including mentoring for research career development. Moreover, the Clinical Movement Analysis space (C-MOVA) within the Wellness Innovation (WIN) Lab in Omaha was renovated to expand capacity and enhance our research efforts.
Applicants are required to provide a teaching philosophy statement and a research/ scholarly statement of topics of inquiry with planned activities.

Required Qualifications
a) Hold an unencumbered PT license and be eligible for licensure in Nebraska.
b) Earned clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
c) ABPTS certification or an earned academic doctoral degree.
d) Maintain membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.
e) Experience teaching physical therapy-related content at the entry-level or graduate level.
f) Evidence of an emerging regional or national reputation in professional service, such as a record of service as an officer or a significant committee/member/chair in a state, regional, or national professional society and/or consultation related to clinical practice areas.
g) Evidence of an established research/scholarly agenda for physical therapy that aligns with the program’s mission, such as a record of publication activity (e.g., manuscripts, newsletters, blogs, patient education materials) and/or presentations.
h) Reside in the Kearney or Omaha, Nebraska area and work on the associated campus.
i) Travel between the Omaha and Kearney campuses as needed for teaching, service activities, or specific Physical Therapy Education events. The distance between Kearney and Omaha is approximately 200 miles.
j) Capable of working independently, engaging, leading, and coordinating with teams.
k) Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Supplemental Qualifications
The well-qualified applicant will have:
a) Earned an academic doctorate (Candidate status acceptable).
b) An ongoing engagement or leadership record in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) or APTA-Nebraska.
c)Teaching experience leading class and lab activities in a physical therapist education program.
d) A wide range of clinical expertise, including foundational skills, anatomy, clinical reasoning and professionalism, physical agents, and practice management.
