Pilates / Group Fitness Instructor

Job Description

About FS8

FS8 is all-in-one fitness with flair. It's a never-been-done-before offering that remixes the best elements of Pilates, tone, and yoga for a complete, full-body group training experience. The FS8 workout is designed to break the mold and incorporate revolutionary, science-backed techniques to lengthen, strengthen, stabilize, and mobilize the body in a workout that ties in with your physical and psychological well-being.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Pilates Instructor to join our team at FS8 Fairfield. The ideal candidate has a strong background in Mat and Reformer Pilates and a commitment to helping individuals raise the bar and achieve their fitness goals. As an FS8 Instructor, you will nurture a supportive environment for participants of all skill levels, delivering FS8’s signature, science-backed programming infused with the unique personal flair that only you can bring to our community. Your expertise in body mechanics, anatomy, and group fitness instruction will play a crucial role in delivering a high-quality fitness experience that enhances both physical and psychological well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Before Class:

  • Prepare for a pre-programmed workout by reviewing all relevant materials.
  • Memorize workout timing and prepare visual, verbal, tactile, and kinesthetic cues for all movements as well as progressions, regressions, and pre- and post-natal modifications.
  • Ensure the room and equipment are set up properly and neatly.
  • Welcome new members, introduce them to the space and equipment, and assess for injuries and health considerations.

During Class:

  • Provide form corrections, addressing members by name and leveraging all four types of cueing techniques.
  • Offer appropriate modifications—both progressions/amplifications and regressions–in order to run a safe, effective class.
  • Cultivate a high energy, positive environment to motivate members, helping them to understand their own strengths and push past limitations.
  • Remain alert and aware of the room, responding to individual and group needs as they arise.

After Class:

  • Offer praise and a friendly farewell to departing guests.
  • Reset the room, tidying stations and wiping down equipment as needed.
  • Update member profiles and studio management with any relevant information.
  • Connect with first time visitors and trial members.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow trainers and studio managers to ensure efficient studio operation.
  • Promptly respond to studio communications within 48 hours of receipt, or within 8 hours of your scheduled shift.
  • Attend regular virtual team meetings and watch FS8 athletics webinars (every 6 weeks).
  • Share and lock in shift availability no less than one month in advance.
  • Work out at an FS8 studio at least twice per week.
  • Commit to a minimum of two-three classes per shift, with availability for at least one weekend shift per month to meet the studio’s scheduling needs.
  • Evening availability (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm) highly desired but not a must

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Personal Training certification or Pilates certification
  • Experience teaching Pilates classes, personal training, or group fitness (minimum 1-2 years preferred).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for helping others improve their fitness and well-being.
  • Ability to motivate and engage members of all fitness levels.
  • Professional, punctual, and reliable.

Training & Onboarding

As part of your FS8 training journey, you are expected to:

  • Engage with training materials: Thoroughly read handbook, watch all observation videos, complete associated observation forms, and complete spring change activity.
  • Watch the full orientation video: Ensure you view the video in its entirety before moving into studio practice.

  • Complete mock classes as needed: Participate in any practice/mock classes assigned prior to coaching live sessions with clients.
