Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation plus training in electronics, and one (1) year of work experience in the operation and maintenance of audio visual equipment.

Preferred Skills:

  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) holder or equivalent.
  • Experience in distance collaboration and education delivery technologies (eg. Zoom or Teams). Familiarity with AV control systems (eg. Extron, Crestron), general audio engineering skills or familiarity with audio DSP systems, and computer networking skills.

Classroom A/V Technician
Classification: 4967 Communications Technician

Role Summary:
This is a customer-facing position that ensures overall classroom readiness, primarily related to technology in 74 classrooms across the Academic Health Center campus along with the Senior Communications Technician and the Service Coordinator. This position is responsible for both a proactive presence in and around the classrooms, checking in with classes and events before start times, and reactive “911” classroom issue response. This position also helps ensure classroom capture systems are functioning and distance learning technology is ready to use daily.

Onsite work required. Hours 7:00am - 3:30pm M-F

Duties:
Classroom AV Support Technician – 70%

  • Responsible for Room Readiness, ensuring that all classrooms are ready for teaching and learning at all times.
  • Be in, around our classrooms, visible and accessible to room presenters, and learners
  • “On demand” support for users of Health Sciences Classroom Services (HSCS) supported classrooms
  • Document user-issues in ticketing systems, following-up with users post-trouble calls
  • Serve as contact for all classroom technology issues
  • Communicate AV system functionality status as needed to all stakeholders
  • Provide on-the-spot or scheduled training on classroom equipment
  • Works proactively with event coordinators to provide a high-level of technology support
  • Occasionally assist with classroom installation and configuration

Reporting – 20%

  • Assist in office reporting efforts
  • Helps maintain equipment database
  • Assists with updating AV system as-built drawings
  • Helps track Facilities Management work order status

Other Duties – 10%

  • Shared classroom signage and communication responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned
