Job Title: Construction Accountant
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Accountant who will take ownership of construction accounting tasks, including job costing, WIP tracking, and project financial reporting. This role involves close collaboration with project managers to monitor project performance, manage financial risks, and ensure compliance with financial controls.
Responsibilities
Manage construction accounting, including job costing, WIP tracking, and project financial reporting.
Maintain and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete estimates.
Collaborate with project managers to track project performance, identify variances, and manage financial risk.
Review and approve pay applications, change orders, and vendor invoices for accuracy and alignment with contract terms.
Oversee subcontractor billing, lien waivers, and compliance documentation.
Ensure accurate cost allocation across labor, materials, and overhead.
Support month-end close processes related to construction activities, including revenue recognition and project reporting.
Maintain and improve systems for tracking project costs, budgets, and financial performance.
Prepare project-level financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with contracts, financial controls, and reporting requirements.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in construction accounting, job costing, or project-based accounting.
Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and project financial management.
Working knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles.
Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with construction contracts, pay applications, and change order processes.
Experience working closely with project managers and operations teams.
Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong ownership mentality and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
This position is on-site, requiring attendance five days a week from 9am to 6pm

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr.
