SUMMARY

Will be responsible for planning and conducting the daily program for a group of children in the child development center and supervising Early Care and Education students assigned to work in the lab.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with two or more year’s full-time documentable experience in a preschool or child care center. Training in occupational child care with a Master Teacher Certificate, CDA, or college courses preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Classroom Management

  • Developing and implementing daily lesson plans for young children.
  • Understands and practices positive discipline and nurturing guidance.
  • Organizing the program for young children so that instructional activities can be accomplished safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining an active but orderly center appearance and learning environment indoors and outdoors.
  • Conducting daily health check.
  • Supervising Early Care and Education students assigned to assist with daily group activities.
  • Supervise lab students in Lab Managers absence. Ensuring all duties are performed as required.
  • Observing, recording and reporting significant individual and group behavior.
  • Supervising play activities by a) participating with children in group games, b) enforcing safety rules, c) intervening when children are likely to injure, d) remaining with one or more children until relieved by another adult.
  • Assisting children with self-care activities.
  • Aiding individual children who experience difficulty in the group or who temporarily lose their physical or emotional control.
  • Participating in/supervising daily activities with the young children, i.e., breakfast, lunch, snack, etc. using positive guidance techniques.
  • Interacts with children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing.
  • Promoting family style dining procedure.
  • Maintaining individual files on each young child with appropriate records and information.
  • Assuming an equal share of housekeeping and laundry duties as needed.
  • Completing and submitting all forms and data as required by the Early Care and Education instructor.
  • Maintaining materials and equipment and reporting items needing repair.
  • Cooperates with Lab Manager when medication must be provided for children.

Administering minor first aid.

  • Reporting accidents, health concerns, unusual occurrences to Lab Manager.
  • Maintaining attendance, maintenance and school lunch records as required.
  • Sanitizing tables before each meal and supplement service.
  • Sweeping and cleaning the floor after each meal and supplement service.
  • Practices good sanitation.
  • Time management skills.
  • Light computer skills.

Curriculum Planning & Development

  • Developing, evaluating and adjusting goals for each child and the total program.
  • Preparing and submitting weekly lesson plans and teaching units to lab manager every week.
  • Maintains developmental portfolios regularly.
  • Understands and can recognize developmental milestones.
  • Posting class schedule and lesson plans.
  • Cooperating with students in lesson planning process.
  • Preparing and displaying bulletin boards and children's work.
  • Utilizing innovative and effective learning activities both indoors and outdoors.
  • Supervising and interacting with children outdoors and indoors.
  • Planning activities which allow for a child's creative expression.
  • Preparing educational materials required to implement the daily activity plan.

Professional Development

  • Works cooperatively with all staff to maintain STARS standards.
  • Works cooperatively with all staff to maintain National Association of Child Care Professionals Accreditation Commission (NAC) standards.
  • Attending all staff and parent meetings and contributing to the meetings.
  • Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth.
  • Sharing information appropriately with other lab school staff members.
  • Developing a positive relationship between the center, the children, the students, and the parents.
  • Working cooperatively with all staff to maintain all Oklahoma State Licensing regulations and center goals.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing on a continuous basis.
  • Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible always.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assisting the instructor with operation of the center.
  • Assuming responsibilities of opening or closing center as needed.
  • Maintaining recordkeeping for child care food program and contributing to menu.
  • Performing any job that might be necessary for daily operation of Child Care Center.
  • Enjoying young children.
  • Performing the job of a teacher of small children while assuring their safety.
  • May be responsible for the cleaning and disposing of blood and bodily fluids, as well as other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) and for administering first aid and/or CPR as needed or if appropriate.
  • Responsible for cleaning soiled diapers and soiled clothing.
  • Stay late with children who are not picked up on time.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Upon selection and an offer of employment, the candidate must pass a physical examination to demonstrate the ability to perform the tasks required for this job. The physical will be performed at a medical facility selected by the district.

The candidate must also, upon offer of employment, have a clean criminal background check by OSBI or another appropriate agency.

The candidate must also provide proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the United States.
