Job Title: Assistant District Attorney or Associate Attorney

Assistant District Attorney

The work involves responsibility for assisting with the prosecution of criminal cases. The incumbent of this position is responsible for participating in the prosecution of cases of criminal violations of law in the County by investigating, preparing, and presenting violations, misdemeanors and/or felony cases in criminal court. The work is performed under the general supervision of the District

Attorney with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work.

Does related work as required.

SUGGESTED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a license to practice law in the State of New York.

Associate Attorney

This is professional legal work which involves advanced legal research, legal writing and preparation for court appearances. Once the incumbent is admitted to the New York State Bar, the incumbent also serves as legal counsel in the District Attorney Office. The work is assigned by and performed under the general supervision of a Chief Assistant District Attorney. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited law school with a J.D., LL.B. or LL.M. Degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

The incumbent must obtain a license to practice law in New York State within one (1) year of the date of permanent appointment.

NOTE:

Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency. Work Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary: Grade 6, $85,000- 102,816/YR (Assistant District Attorney, exempt)

Grade 7, $72,000-94,058/YR (Associate Attorney, PJC)

Location: Cortland County District Attorney’s Office
