About the Position

The Kansas Department of Labor is seeking a Human Resource Professional | Benefits Administrator to support benefits administration, leave programs, and employee onboarding for an agency of approximately 410 employees.

This position plays a critical role in supporting employees throughout their lifecycle, from onboarding through leave administration. This is not an entry-level role; it requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a solid understanding of HR processes and compliance.


Key Responsibilities

New Employee Orientation & Onboarding

  • Coordinate and facilitate new employee onboarding
  • Process I-9s and complete E-Verify requirements in compliance with federal guidelines
  • Issue and manage employee ID badges, ensuring appropriate access and security alignment
  • Assign performance evaluations in the KLPM system for new hires and employee transfers
  • Maintain and update the agency organizational chart
  • Coordinate onboarding logistics with HR, IT, Facilities, and supervisors


Benefits Administration

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee benefits questions
  • Educate employees on health, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance plans
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment and mid-year qualifying life event changes
  • Maintain working knowledge of all State of Kansas benefits programs
  • Coordinate with vendors and partners to resolve benefit-related issues

Leave Administration

  • Administer FMLA, including eligibility determination, documentation review, and leave tracking
  • Manage Shared Leave requests and donation processes
  • Coordinate Paid Parental Leave in alignment with applicable policies
  • Communicate clearly with employees and supervisors regarding leave processes and expectations

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience providing customer service in a professional setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) and ability to navigate multiple systems efficiently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with State of Kansas benefits and leave programs
  • Knowledge of FMLA and leave administration
  • Experience with SHaRP, KLPM, or similar HR systems
  • Given the scope and complexity of this role, candidates with prior State of Kansas HR experience are strongly encouraged to apply
