CNC Machinist (3 & 5-Axis) Location: Kansas City, KS (Convenient I-70/I-670 access) Shifts: 2nd Shift (3 PM – 11 PM) or 3rd Shift (11 PM – 7 AM)

The Role: Precision at Scale
  • Master the Setup: Lead the independent setup and operation of multi-axis CNC machines for heavy-duty rail materials.

  • Speak the Code: Read and interpret complex blueprints and G-code to ensure 100% accuracy on every part.

  • Quality First: Use calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges to maintain tight industrial tolerances.

  • Troubleshoot: Independently diagnose and solve machine or programming issues to keep production moving through the night.

What You Bring to the Shop
  • Experience: 3–5 years in a heavy industrial CNC environment (Setup experience is highly preferred).

  • Technical Savvy: Proficiency in navigating G-code/M-code and reading complex engineering drawings.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Setup & Operation: Perform independent setups and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines to manufacture high-precision railroad infrastructure components.

  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret complex industrial blueprints, engineering drawings, and G-code/M-code to ensure 100% part accuracy.

  • Precision Inspection: Conduct first-article and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges to maintain tight industrial tolerances.

  • Tooling Management: Select appropriate cutting tools and fixtures; perform tool wear offsets and replacements to ensure continuous production quality.

  • Off-Shift Troubleshooting: Independently diagnose and resolve mechanical or programming issues on the shop floor to minimize downtime during 2nd and 3rd shift hours.

  • Process Optimization: Monitor machine cycle times and performance, adjusting speeds and feeds to improve efficiency and reduce material waste.

  • Material Handling: Safely utilize manual tools and equipment to load and prep heavy rail materials for the machining process.

  • Shift Communication: Maintain accurate production logs and detailed handoff notes to ensure seamless transition between shifts.

  • Safety & 5S: Adhere to all OSHA and facility-specific safety protocols, maintaining a clean and organized workspace in a high-output environment.
