Job Description

American Classical Academy Rutherford (ACAR) is a tuition-free, public classical charter school located in La Vergne, TN. Opened in August 2024, ACAR serves students in grades K–6 and will grow one grade level per year until becoming a full K–12 institution. ACAR is part of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a national network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose.

The mission of ACAR is to train the minds and develop the character of students through a content-rich classical education in the liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in moral character and civic virtue.

We are seeking dedicated K–7 Teachers who embody high moral character, mastery of their subject matter, and a passion for forming students in both knowledge and virtue.

Position Overview

K–7 Teachers are the primary instructors for a class of 20- 25 students. They are responsible for planning and delivering lessons in core subject areas including English (literature, literacy, grammar, and composition), Mathematics, History, and Science. Teachers also cultivate a classroom environment rooted in joy, order, wonder, and respect while modeling the virtues ACAR seeks to instill in its students.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, content-rich lessons aligned with ACAR’s classical curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Foster a climate of joy, order, and wonder in the classroom.
  • Manage student behavior promptly and appropriately in accordance with schoolwide expectations.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress, behavior, and classroom events.
  • Engage charitably and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and staff.
  • Model prudence, responsibility, self-discipline, and the other virtues of the school and classical education.
  • Collaborate with intervention specialists and implement supports for students when needed.
  • Participate actively in professional development to deepen subject knowledge and classical teaching methods.
  • Use appropriate technology for instruction, assessment, and record keeping as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (required).
  • Valid Tennessee teaching license (preferred but not required).
  • Experience in classical education (preferred but not required).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of ACAR and enthusiasm for forming students in both knowledge and virtue.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
