Social Science Teacher –1.0 FTE
John Hersey High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Science Teacher to join our dynamic team. We are committed to fostering a cooperative, supportive, and respectful environment where students thrive both academically and personally. We are looking for educators who are eager to collaborate, utilize student-centered teaching strategies, and actively participate in professional learning communities.
The ideal candidate will be academically prepared to teach World History, with a primary focus on Human Geography and United States History. We are specifically seeking an educator with experience supporting English Learners (EL), demonstrating the ability to scaffold complex historical concepts and foster academic growth for a diverse student population.
Responsibilities:
- Teach social science courses, with a focus on World History to students with diverse academic backgrounds.
- Implement a variety of instructional methods and practices to meet individual student needs, including those of struggling learners.
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and target external assessments.
- Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary teams to design, implement, and refine curriculum.
- Integrate technology effectively into instruction.
- Support building co-curricular activities as a coach or sponsor.
- Travel between Prospect High School and John Hersey High School as needed.
Qualifications:
- Valid State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Senior High School endorsement in Social Science.
- EL endorsement required.
- AP experience preferred.
- Academically prepared to teach multiple courses in the social sciences: Human Geography and United States History.
- Demonstrated success in working with struggling learners.
- Ability to implement a wide variety of instructional methods and practices.
- Ability to teach courses at various academic levels.
- Willingness to support building co-curricular activities.
- Commitment to collaborative curriculum development and implementation.
- Commitment to curriculum that targets external assessments.
- Proficiency in using technology for instruction.
