The Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) is an intermediate care facility offering support to approximately 130 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community.

KNI has 19 homes with direct support staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

About the Position:

All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.

The major roles of this position are supervising a team of safety and security officers and ensuring the continuous safety and security of the people who live and work at KNI. and of the visitors to the KNI campus. They will ensure compliance with applicable city, state, and federal criminal statutes on the KNI campus, and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations that affect the safety of people who live at KNI, work at KNI, or visit the KNI campus. This position is on-call and will receive stand-by pay on nights and weekends to provide coverage 24/7.

Compensation/Other Information:

• Hourly Pay Range: Starting at $22.72/hour
• Monday-Friday, 8-5 & on-call nights and weekends
• Unclassified
• Full-time

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License
• One year experience in safety, security or fire prevention work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Four years of experience in law enforcement or security work.
• Two years of supervisory experience.

• Ability to pass a criminal background check
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen
