Veterinary Technician

Job Description

Specialty Technicians - ICU, Anesthesia, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurology

Who we are

Summit Veterinary Specialty Center is a new specialty hospital that will be opening in Northern Colorado in the Summer of 2026. Summit was founded to redefine what veterinary specialty care can be. We focus on a select range of specialties so that we can hire the most skilled doctors and technicians and deliver uncompromising care. As an independent organization, we’re reclaiming the values that matter most in veterinary medicine: community, transparency, and exceptional care. We show up each day with humanity—fostering a culture of kindness, collaboration, and genuine joy in the work we do together.

Culture at Summit

At Summit, we believe core values should not just be words on a wall or statements on a website—they should be demonstrated in how we work every day. Our core values have been operationalized into our team members’ pay structure, where culture alignment is equally valued with skillset. We want to hire the right people and are dedicated to developing you, both professionally and personally, while you are a team member with us.

Our core values

Exceptional Care: We go above and beyond when caring for our patients, clients and referring veterinarians.

Kindness: We show up with humanity, especially when it’s hard. Everyone deserves empathy, respect and compassion.

Transparency: We communicate clearly, openly and honestly so clients, staff and the referring community can make empowered choices.

Fun: We foster a positive and energetic environment where laughter and joy are part of the healing process.

Community: We invest in the growth and development of our employees professionally and personally while supporting the veterinary profession.

The Role

You will get to experience the joy of being in veterinary medicine once again!

You will be part of a specialty team managing ophthalmology, neurology and surgical cases (orthopedic, soft tissue and surgical oncology) in a structured, non-ER environment. We are hiring for technicians in multiple departments. While each specialty department will have designated roles, in general, we want you to be a team player and be involved in all aspects of care, including;

- Initial consultations and history taking

- Patient pre-op preparation, including running blood work and taking radiographs and/or assisting with acquiring CT/MRI scans

- Patient sedation and anesthesia induction and monitoring

- Scrubbing in to surgeries to assist our specialists

- Client communication and admitting/discharging patients

What makes this role different

1. No ER department
- Without an emergency department, our team dedicates every resource to exceptional specialty medicine. This reduces chaos and provides enhanced patient care.

2. Dedicated critical care specialist for training and case support
- We have a criticalist who is dedicated to enhancing the level of medicine in our hospital.
- They will act as a hospitalist, as well as provide ongoing, hands-on training in anesthesia, patient management and clinical decision-making

3. True technician utilization (scalable to your level)
- We believe that everybody thrives when their work structure utilizes their skillset
- We are dedicated to advancing your skills and empowering you to do your job with autonomy

4. Profit sharing (quarterly)
- All support staff are eligible to be part of our profit sharing program.
- We value your hard work (and let’s be honest, we couldn’t do what we do without you!), and you deserve to reap the financial benefits of your work

5. No on call schedule
- Since we do not have an ER department, we do not have a typical on-call program
- We have a modified ‘stay late’ program as needed for case completion
