Position Summary:The Catlettsburg Division Controller is responsible for the accounting and budgeting activities in support of the Catlettsburg refinery. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position will be expected to assist accountants and business partners in troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day issues. This position is considered a member of the refinery management team.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensures policies, plans and systems necessary to effectively carry out accounting activities for their area of responsibility and ensures the consistent administration of such policies and plans.
- Ensures internal controls are established and execute effectively to maintain records of the transactions and activities, consolidate related statistical reports and statements, reconcile and balance accounts and ledgers, and provide management with results of operations.
- Actively participates in the monthly accounting closeout, performing reviews and offering guidance on various accounting topics. Reviews and approves significant journal entries and reconciliations in accordance with Controller's policies as appropriate. Ensures all necessary financial activity is completed timely including TRACK contractor activity.
- Responsible for the development, analysis, and presentation of the refinery manufacturing expense budget with local Refinery Staff and Findlay Refining Staff. Responsible for monthly cost analysis of refinery performance against the approved budget.
- Responsible for preparation of the bi-annual Solomon Benchmarking Survey and analyzes the results in coordination with Refining Staff.
- Leads the accounting team encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Sets goals and metrics for the department and monitors progress towards their completion. Develop and coach employees on performance of assigned duties.
- Participates in Refinery and Controller-wide initiatives in collaboration with other organizations including the implementation of systems that impact the accounting processes, the adoption of new accounting pronouncements, or refinery initiatives to improve performance. Provides critical change management insight in support of these initiatives.
- On-call for refinery emergencies as necessary. Serves as Finance Section Lead when the emergency response team is activated. Attend daily operations meetings. Act as a refinery representative at community events and meetings with external business and government agencies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
- Ten (10) years of Accounting or relevant experience required. Prior leadership experience is a plus.
- Advanced SAP and Microsoft proficiency preferred.
- Industry accounting experience preferred.
