Estimator / project assistant

About Us We are an established kitchen cabinetry company based in Auckland, specialising in the design, manufacturing, and installation of custom kitchens, vanities, and commercial joinery. We work with both residential clients and commercial builders/developers across New Zealand. The Role We are looking for a bilingual (English & Chinese) Joinery Estimator / Project Assistant to join our team. This role sits at the intersection of technical drawing interpretation, cost estimation, and project coordination. You will help us turn architectural drawings into winning tenders and profitable projects. What You Will Do Drawing & Take-off ● Read and interpret architectural and construction drawings. ● Break down drawings into joinery/cabinetry scope (kitchens, vanities, wardrobes, commercial fitouts). ● Understand dimensions, materials, and structural requirements relevant to cabinetry manufacturing. Estimation & Tendering ● Prepare accurate joinery take-offs and quantity schedules from drawings. ● Assist with cost estimation for cabinetry and joinery projects. ● Compile and submit tender documents to builders and developers. ● Follow up on submitted tenders and maintain a tender tracking register. Project Coordination ● Liaise with builders, contractors, architects, and developers. ● Assist with project documentation, progress tracking, and scheduling. ● Coordinate between our sales/design team and production/installation team. ● Handle general administrative tasks to support the business owner. What We Are Looking For Must Have ● Fluent in both English and Chinese (spoken and written). ● Proficient in Cabinet Vision (required — this is our primary design and production tool). ● Ability to read and interpret architectural/construction drawings. ● Basic understanding of cabinetry/joinery products and materials. ● Strong attention to detail and accuracy in numerical work. ● Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel in particular). ● NZ work visa or residency. ● NZ full driver licence. Highly Preferred ● Experience in joinery/cabinetry estimation or quantity surveying. ● Experience with tendering processes in the NZ construction industry. ● Familiarity with NZ building codes and construction contracts. ● Experience using CAD software or other estimation tools. ● Previous experience working with builders or developers in NZ. ● Hardworking, fast learner, dedicated to the role, and someone who sets high standards for their own career development and work quality. Nice to Have ● Qualification in quantity surveying, construction management, or interior/kitchen design. ● Knowledge of NZ Health & Safety requirements on construction sites. ● Experience with Xero, project management tools, or CRM systems.
