Funeral Director Assistant– Far North (Kaitaia) Geards Funerals is seeking a professional, compassionate, and reliable individual to join our team as a Funeral Director’s Assistant. We are committed to supporting families across the Far North with care, dignity, and respect during one of life’s most important and challenging times. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a supportive team, assisting in all aspects of funeral service while ensuring every detail is handled with professionalism and empathy. Key Responsibilities: Assist Funeral Directors with the coordination and delivery of funeral services Support the care, transfer, and preparation of the deceased Assist with mortuary duties, including hygienic care and presentation Help with Coronial and non-Coronial transfers Prepare and maintain funeral vehicles Set up and pack down for services, including venues and equipment Provide support to families during services in a respectful and professional manner Liaise with internal team members and external providers as required Complete some administrative tasks, including data entry and documentation Maintain cleanliness and presentation of facilities and grounds Participate in a rotating on-call roster, including nights and weekends What We’re Looking For: Full, clean driver’s license Clean police record Previous experience in the funeral industry, healthcare, or a similar role is an advantage (but not essential) Strong work ethic, punctuality with a high level of integrity Compassionate, respectful, and professional manner Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow direction and work well within a team Good organisational and time management skills Physically fit and able to assist with lifting and manual tasks Resilient and able to work in emotionally sensitive environments Respect for different cultures, religions, and beliefs Basic computer skills and attention to detail Local knowledge of the Far North is an advantage What We Offer: Full-time, permanent role based in Kaitaia Competitive remuneration package Ongoing training and ability to gain qualification The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your community Applicants must have NZ residency, a full clean driver’s licence, and be willing to undergo a police check.
