Equipment Operator

Job Summary:

Laydon, is a family owned and operated excavating & paving company since 1944 providing Underground Construction and Utility Support Services throughout the state of Connecticut. We strive to maintain quality workmanship and provide a safe work environment for our employees and the general public.

We are seeking Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team! The ideal candidate will have at least two years' experience operating various construction equipment including loaders, excavators, skidsteers and gradalls. This person has proven experience of operating equipment safely around crew members, pedestrians and traffic.

Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to gradalls, loaders, backhoes, excavators, in compliance with company and safety standards.
• Inspect equipment and machinery daily to ensure it is in safe working condition.
• Operate safely on public roads and highways, and within close proximity of underground and above ground utilities.
• Transport materials across the jobsite or materials yard.
• Load various material into dump trucks.
• Must be willing to learn on the job how to operate new machines as we have many different types of equipment including: Milling & Paving, Excavation, Crushing & Screening, Hazardous Materials Response, and more.

Qualifications:

• CDL Class A or B REQUIRED
• Experience operating Gradalls, loaders, backhoes, excavators, etc.
• Clean Driving Record
• Up to date DOT Medical Card
• Team-player and willingness to help where needed
• Versatile and flexible
• Driven, can-do attitude
• Safety-concious
• Proven experience operating safely in the road
• Experience with Water Main/Sewer, Concrete, Paving

Pay Range:

• $30 - $40 depending on experience

Hours:

• Monday through Friday, 9 to 12 hour days
• Saturdays optional

Working Conditions:

• The physical work environment is outdoors, on main roads. Physical demands of the position include operating, standing, traversing, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and working in adverse weather conditions.
