REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: A2 Virtual+ Administration
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board of Education in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with counseling endorsement (NT).
  • Experience working with high school students and families in an educational setting.
  • Experience supporting academic planning, scheduling, and course selection.
  • Ability to support students with academic difficulties.
  • Strong understanding of graduation requirements, credit tracking, and transcripts.
  • Previous experience in an online/virtual environment preferred.
POSITION SUMMARY
The A2 Virtual+ Summer Term Counselor supports student enrollment, scheduling, and credit verification during the start of the summer term. This role is primarily focused on ensuring students are enrolled in appropriate courses aligned to graduation requirements and providing guidance to students and families.
The majority of work will occur during the week leading into summer term and the first week of the program. After this initial period, the counselor will remain available on an as-needed basis to support enrollment questions, schedule adjustments, and occasional student needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist students and families with course selection and enrollment for summer term.
  • Ensure students are enrolled in appropriate courses aligned to graduation requirements.
  • Verify course selections, credits, and scheduling accuracy prior to enrollment.
  • Respond to student and family questions regarding credits, transcripts, and course options.
  • Collaborate with A2 Virtual+ administration to resolve enrollment or scheduling issues.
  • Provide limited student support as needed during the summer term.
  • Maintain accurate records of time worked and tasks completed.
  • Be available on an on-call basis (as needed) after the initial work period.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal; email, phone, virtual meetings).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management and ability to manage a flexible/on-call schedule.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage student-specific situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow district/state/federal regulations (FERPA, etc.).
  • Comfort working in a remote/virtual environment.
  • Strong understanding of technology and computer systems, including spreadsheets (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel), and ability to manage and organize data accurately.
  • Regular and reliable availability when needed during the summer term.

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
