JOB EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Position Purpose / Description
The Washington Township Online Academy Principal is responsible for providing visionary leadership and operational management of the district's virtual high school program serving students in grades 9-12. This position requires expertise in online education, digital pedagogy, and student engagement strategies specific to the virtual learning environment. The Washington Township Online Academy Principal oversees curriculum implementation, supports virtual teaching staff, ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, monitors student achievement and attendance in the online setting, and fosters a strong virtual school culture that promotes student success and family engagement. Additionally, the Online Academy Principal collaborates with the True North Academy in-person principal to support operations at the in-person True North Academy, ensuring cohesive programming across both virtual and in-person alternative education settings. The Principal works collaboratively with district leadership, North Central High School administration, technology services, and support staff to deliver a high-quality, accessible educational experience for virtual learners.
- Provide instructional leadership for the virtual school program, ensuring alignment with district goals, state standards, and best practices in online education
- Supervise, evaluate, and support virtual teaching staff, providing ongoing professional development in digital pedagogy, learning management systems, and student engagement strategies
- Monitor and analyze student performance data, attendance patterns, and engagement metrics to identify trends, intervene with struggling students, and implement improvement strategies
- Oversee virtual curriculum implementation, course scheduling, and student enrollment processes, ensuring appropriate course offerings and pathways to graduation ensuring appropriate course offerings and pathways to graduation with a North Central High School diploma
- Build and maintain a positive virtual school culture through creative engagement initiatives, recognition programs, virtual events, and effective communication with students and families
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing virtual education, including attendance requirements, special education services, and instructional time mandates
- Collaborate with district technology services to maintain and optimize the learning management system, virtual platforms, and digital tools essential to program delivery
- Partner with the True North Academy in-person principal and North Central High School administration to support operations, coordinate programming, and ensure alignment between virtual and in-person alternative education pathways
- Coordinate virtual orientation sessions, information nights, and family engagement opportunities throughout the school year
- Manage the virtual school budget, including allocation of resources for technology, professional development, and program enhancement
- Represent the virtual school program at district meetings, community events, and professional conferences
- Maintain accurate records and submit required reports to district administration and state agencies in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated expertise in virtual education models, online instructional design, and digital learning platforms with understanding of adolescent development in online environments
- Proven leadership and management skills with ability to supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff in a virtual setting
- Strong technological proficiency including learning management systems (Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom, etc.), video conferencing platforms, student information systems, and data analytics tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships and engage stakeholders remotely through virtual meetings, emails, and digital communication tools
- Knowledge of special education law, Section 504, English learner services, and ability to ensure equitable access to virtual programming for diverse learners
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities with capacity to navigate the unique challenges of virtual education delivery
- Experience with data-driven decision making and ability to analyze multiple data sources to improve student outcomes and program effectiveness
- Knowledge of Indiana Diploma requirements
