Associate - Business Litigation (NYC or Boston)

Location: New York, NY or Boston, MA offices (Hybrid)
Experience Level: 5+ years of experience in business litigation

About the Role: Harris Beach Murtha is seeking an associate to join its collaborative Business Litigation team in NYC or Boston. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced litigators across offices and practice areas, engage in sophisticated commercial disputes, and take on meaningful responsibility representing clients in state and federal courts, as well as in mediation and arbitration proceedings. The work is fast-paced, team-oriented, and provides hands-on experience managing complex business litigation matters from inception through resolution.
The Business Litigation Associate will have the opportunity to:
  • Represent our clients in courtroom and mediation/arbitration proceedings
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Research various factual and legal issues and collaborate with senior attorneys about strategies
  • Draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery demands and responses, motions, briefs, etc.
  • Examination of records and transactions underlying business disputes and investigations as to potential client claims
  • Commitment to working in a variety of commercial litigation practice areas
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to provide comprehensive legal support to our clients
Work Environment and Expectations:

  • Minimum annual billable requirement of 1800 hours

  • Admission to New York or Massachusetts bar (required)
  • Admission to Connecticut bar (preferred)
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school (required)
  • Federal or state judicial clerkship experience (preferred)
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly absorb and analyze new information
  • A high level of professionalism, conscientiousness, and responsibility
  • A positive, flexible, and cooperative attitude
  • Military experience welcome
Salary information below will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position and geographic locations.
New York City: $159,000 - 185,000
