Esperanza Law is a fast-paced legal practice representing children and adults in a wide range of immigration law matters. This includes representing individuals in removal proceedings, administrative and federal appeals, matters related to detention and bond proceedings, applications before USCIS and other entities, and other complex legal issues.
Description of Position
The Legal Assistant will hold the following responsibilities with direction and support from Esperanza Law attorneys:
Core responsibilities:
· Answering phones, in Spanish and English, during business hours;
· Making calls to clients at the request of attorneys;
· Gather initial basic background information;
· Entering client information into case management systems;
· Collect required identity and other relevant case documents;
· Accepting payments and issuing receipts;
· Managing attorney calendars and coordinating initial consultations and appointments;
· Copying, collating, and scanning legal documents and case files into case management systems;
· Prepare end of week reports for attorneys.
Qualifications:
· Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) for oral and written communication;
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines;
· Experience answering phones and interfacing with clients/customers;
· Computer skills (MS Word, Adobe, and legal management systems);
· Prior administrative experience in a law office, strongly preferred.
Position Details
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) in-person position. Starting salaryis $41,600 with benefits. The role is based out of our New Haven, Connecticut office.
