The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and motivated Metal Machinist to join our growing production team in Auckland. This is an exciting opportunity for a trade-qualified professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-precision environment. You will play a key role in producing precision components to exact specifications, ensuring our clients receive the quality they expect every time. Key Responsibilities •Set up, operate and maintain CNC lathes, milling machines, and conventional machining equipment •Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical blueprints, and CAD files •Machine metal parts and components to tight tolerances and specifications •Conduct in-process quality inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges) •Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters for each job •Program CNC machines (G-code / conversational) and adjust programs as required •Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting of machines •Follow health and safety procedures and ensure a tidy, organised workstation •Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and team members to meet production targets •Document work completed, materials used, and any non-conformances •Assist with toolroom work and prototype fabrication where required Skills & Qualifications •Minimum 2 years of relevant machining experience in a production or engineering environment, AND/OR a Level 5 qualification in Engineering (Machining) or equivalent — REQUIRED •New Zealand Trade Certificate in Engineering (Machining) or NZ Level 5 qualification (or equivalent) highly regarded •Proficient in operating CNC turning and/or milling centres (FANUC, SIEMENS or similar controllers) •Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) •Competent use of precision measuring tools and quality assurance techniques •Experience with a variety of metals including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and specialty alloys •Solid understanding of machining processes, tooling selection, and cutting techniques •Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability •Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision •Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work •Awareness of workplace health and safety obligations What We Offer •Competitive pay rate of NZD $35.00 – $45.00 per hour, based on experience and skills •Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week, with potential for up to 45 hours •Overtime opportunities available for the right candidate •Permanent position with job security in a well-established company •Supportive and professional working environment with an experienced team •Modern, well-maintained machinery and tooling •Ongoing training and professional development opportunities •Opportunity to grow within the company and take on greater responsibility •Convenient Auckland location with easy access to public transport and parking Work Environment & Hours This role is based at our Auckland manufacturing facility. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work additional hours depending on production demand. You will be working in a workshop environment that requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
