Full Time Special Education Paraprofessional / Caregiver

25-26 School Year

Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Coloma Elementary School. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education students to provide support and assistance in the classroom, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals.

This role also involves diapering children with attention to cleanliness, skin care, and the proper disposal of soiled materials in accordance with health and safety guidelines. The caregiver will also be responsible for colostomy bag care, including emptying, cleaning, and replacing the appliances as needed, always ensuring comfort and dignity for the individual.

In addition to hands-on care, the assistant will be expected to accurately document personal care activities in daily logs and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all personal and medical information. Proper disposal of hygiene and medical waste is a key responsibility.

This position requires professionalism, attention to detail, and a high level of respect for those receiving care. Experience is preferred, but training may be provided.

Responsibilities:

    • Assist special education students with daily classroom activities, including reading, writing, and math
    • Help students with physical and behavioral needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility
    • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
    • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior
    • Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to improve skills and knowledge
    • Child diapering, including proper hygiene and disposal
    • Colostomy bag care, including emptying, cleaning, and replacement
    • Accurate documentation of personal care activities in daily logs
    • Safe disposal of medical and hygiene waste
    • Maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity of the individuals at all times.

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following:
  • Associates Degree
  • 60+ Credits
  • Passed the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a core of 460+
  • SAT Score of 480+ (reading & writing) & 530+ (math)
  • Previously passed MTCC, Workkeys, ACT or MME

Requirements Continued:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some college coursework preferred)
  • Experience working with special education students, either in a school or other setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary clearances as required by the school district
