The City of Richland Center is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented professional to serve as Zoning Administrator. This position leads zoning administration, land use planning, and code enforcement efforts, ensuring consistent application of the City’s Zoning Code, Comprehensive Plan, and development regulations.
You will serve as the primary technical advisor to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, and act as a key point of contact for residents, developers, and public agencies on zoning and land use matters.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Administer and enforce zoning code, Comprehensive Plan, and land development regulations
- Review site plans, permits, plats, and development proposals for compliance
- Conduct research and prepare staff reports/recommendations
- Oversee zoning-related code enforcement, inspections, and violation resolution
- Serve as technical advisor to boards/commissions; prepare agendas, materials, and minutes
- Present at public meetings and hearings
- Provide guidance to residents, developers, and stakeholders on zoning processes
- Maintain accurate records of permits, enforcement actions, and inquiries
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Engineering, Architecture, Criminal Justice, or related field
- 2–3 years of experience in municipal planning, zoning, or code enforcement (or equivalent combination)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS (e.g., ArcGIS)
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
- Ability to attend evening meetings
**Preferred Qualifications**
- AICP certification (or progress toward certification)
- Experience with Wisconsin land use statutes
- Background in construction, surveying, or regulatory enforcement
**Knowledge & Skills**
- Strong understanding of zoning and land use principles
- Ability to interpret ordinances and regulations
- Excellent communication and public presentation skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively
