Job Description
This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
As the First Judicial District Director for Community-Based Corrections, this position serves as the executive leader responsible for the strategic oversight and operational management of a multi-faceted correctional district, encompassing residential facilities and probation and parole offices.
Central to this role is the stewardship of organizational culture and employee wellness; the Director is responsible for cultivating a resilient, inclusive work environment that prioritizes staff's mental and physical health while fostering a mission-driven culture of professional excellence.
By integrating wellness into the district's foundation, the Director ensures that the workforce is supported and empowered to provide a safe, humane, and effective continuum of care for justice-involved individuals.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university and the equivalent of five years of full-time management experience in a correctional, mental health, intellectual disability or juvenile correctional or training facility;
ORan equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year of the above type full-time work experience for each year of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
ORan equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year (twenty-four semester or equivalent hours) of graduate level course work in penology, the social/behavioral sciences, business administration or public administration, for each year of the required full-time experience to a maximum substitution of two years.
