Staff Data Steward

PURPOSE:

The Staff Data Steward oversees an organization's data assets to ensure their quality, integrity, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. In this role, you will establish and enforce data governance policies, maintain data dictionaries, and monitor data management practices across departments. You will also collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements, resolve data issues, and promote best practices for data usage. Finally, by acting as a liaison between technical teams and business units, you will ensure that data is accurate, accessible, and effectively utilized to support organizational goals.

YOUR KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Ensure availability, accuracy, reliability, and quality of data through applied knowledge of workflows, data platforms, and stakeholder engagement;

  • Provide leadership to design sessions with Stewards, Data Engineers, Engineering teams, Data Scientists, Product Managers, business and/or IT stakeholders, that result in design documentation and business metadata capture in Collibra and other systems as needed;

  • Partnering with Capability owners, GPOs, Regional Leads, Product Managers, Product Owners, and other Business & IT stakeholders to gain and document comprehensive insights into business capability needs and processes;

  • Ability to identify gaps in requirements based on business subject matter domain expertise;

  • Implement and utilize data solutions for profiling, data analysis, modeling, validation, cataloguing, and quality assurance using a variety of tools such as Postman, R, Colibra, and Python, following industry best practice;

  • Design and evangelize frameworks and objectives for: Governance, Adhering to External and Internal Compliance Needs, Metadata Management, Data Quality, and Data Management Best Practices;

  • Lead in targeted Data efforts, to make data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) to strengthen Bayer Crop Science's effectiveness in carrying out its mission;

  • Lead multi-functional and multi-business stewardship network in which to evangelize these frameworks and objectives - Governance, Data Quality, Data Wrangling, and Best Practices;

  • Collaborate with other data stewards and engineers within the team and across teams on aligning delivery dates and integration efforts;

  • Develop roadmap over respective efforts in the domain and account for dependencies across other domains;

  • Lead various cross team meetings and events focused on design and planning, sharing the results of team efforts, or brainstorming on process improvements;

  • Understanding, assisting and troubleshooting access management, ensuring retention, auditing standards, best practices and data governance policies and procedures are applied consistently and accurately;

  • Providing support for business, platform and other asset teams pertaining to domain knowledge, asset data, governance, and end-to-end solutioning;

  • Define data quality rules and implement automated monitoring, reporting, and remediation solutions;

  • Set strategy for implementation of automated data quality monitoring based on engagement with stakeholders and technical partners;

  • Lead root cause analysis to identify trends and assess impact of data quality issues;

  • Define strategy and identify dependencies to support data migration from legacy systems, data inserts and updates not supported by applications;

  • The primary location for this role is Creve Coeur, MO (St. Louis, MO metro area).

WHO YOU ARE:

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree;

  • At least 9 years of related experience (or 7 years of related experience with Master's Degree or 3 years of related experience with PhD), including expertise in the following areas:

  • Manipulating data using scripting languages and or data processing software (like Python, R, ETL applications);

  • Querying SQL and/or NoSQL databases;

  • Building & supporting APIs, warehousing, Kafka, and other ETL tools;

  • Data process, internal applications and scripting tools;

  • AWS, REST, GraphQL, and gRPC;

  • Profiling, summarizing, and reporting data;

  • Expert-level domain knowledge;

  • Exposure and knowledge in related source systems architecture and design.

This posting will be available for application until at least 4/18/2026.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $114,400.00 - $171,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
