Type of position: Summer Seasonal / Part-time 20 hours per week
Salary Range: BA Elementary Education $26 – $31; prefer certified or BA from an accredited college or university $18 – $26

Program Description: LifeWiseStl Summer Camp is a multicultural reading program designed to acquire literacy skills that lead to mastery of “The Big Five”: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Reading Comprehension. Also, the program helps build social/emotional skills (empathy, Self-Regulation, etc.) through reading texts and other enrichment opportunities. The students will also learn about prominent figures in St. Louis and participate in a community advocacy project, giving teachers a chance to make a meaningful difference in young lives.

Job Description: The main duties and responsibilities of a Reading Specialist shall include the following:

  • To teach (according to LifeWise curriculum and guidelines) and educate students according to the educational needs, abilities, and attainment potential of individual students.
  • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons in ELA, Reading, and Math to all students in the class. Developing pre- and post-test aligned with DESE standards.
  • Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities, and achievement of the individual students and groups of scholars.
  • Assigning work, correcting, and marking work carried out by their student scholars. And recording and reporting on the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of one’s scholars.
  • Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual scholars, groups of scholars, or classes entrusted to them.
  • Communicating, consulting, and cooperating with other members of the summer staff, including those having posts of special responsibility and parents/guardians to ensure the best interests of scholars.
  • Contributing to the professional development of summer staff according to arrangements agreed with the Program Director and Site Coordinator at LifeWise STL.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline amongst scholars under one’s care and always safeguarding their health and safety.
  • Participating in staff, groups, or other meetings related to the summer school curriculum, debriefs, field trips, and all other duties performed.
  • Performing bi-weekly assessments of skills taught in math and ELA; Other duties as assigned by Site Coordinator or Program Director.

Camp Training: Will be held from June 1 to June 5, 2026, providing an opportunity for preparation and team building before the program begins.

Dates: Monday, June 8 – Friday, July 24th (7 weeks, approximately 20 hours per week with 90 minutes for lesson planning daily and two days off Friday June 19th and Friday July 23rd.

Job Requirements: BA in Elementary Education with 3-5 years of experience; certification preferred. Private and Charter School Teachers who meet the experience requirements will be given consideration.

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to develop nurturing relationships with each scholar and encourage positive interactions among Elementary School Scholars.
  • Competence in the use of computers for educational and communication purposes.
  • Ability to lift to fifty (50) pounds and pass comprehensive background check.
