Villanova
University's first-year seminar program, the Augustine and Culture Seminar Program (ACSP), seeks one full-time continuing non-tenure track
(CNT) faculty members to teach its two-semester humanities seminar. With a reading list grounded in the Augustinian, Catholic, and liberal
arts traditions, the Augustine and Culture Seminar (ACS) is reading-and-writing-intensive and also facilitates student engagement in the
intellectual, cultural, and artistic life of the University and the greater Philadelphia area. Students from all four colleges (Liberal Arts
& Sciences, Nursing, Engineering, and Business) take the two courses (1000 Ancients and 1001 Moderns) in this collegial program taught by
20+ full-time faculty from a wide range of disciplines. A signature feature of the first-year experience at Villanova is the
Communitas: First-Year Learning Community program that is a result of the coordinated effort between ACSP and the Division of
Student Life.
In addition to teaching in ACSP, this faculty position will also be scheduled for 20 hours per week in the
Writing Center. This professional tutor will be assigned to work primarily with Villanova undergraduate students, but may also work with
graduate students or faculty members.Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order. The

values. Duties and Responsibilities The position is a renewable 12-month academic appointment
at the rank of assistant teaching professor with a 2/2 teaching load (classes capped at 16).The successful candidate will provide
evidence of teaching effectiveness or potential and demonstrate a willingness to explore and teach the Augustinian and Catholic intellectual
traditions as well as texts in and outside of one's discipline and areas of expertise. The position is primarily and essentially a teaching
position, and ACSP cultivates a cooperative community of teacher-scholars dedicated to meeting the perennial and the changing needs of our
students through an ongoing program of faculty development activities.
Service for this faculty position includes 12-month
availability to the Writing Center. The Writing Center aids students in a collaborative effort of creating their ideal texts and producing
their best quality work. The Writing Center encourages multiple, independent visits for all types of students, in all stages of their
writing, and seeks to produce better writers, not better texts.
Specific Writing Center duties include:
- Provide one-to-one consultations with Villanova students, staff, and faculty
- Engage in a collaborative
effort to help writers create their best quality work and improve writing skills
- Complete online reports after
each session
- Attend brief team meetings concerning workshops, professional development opportunities,
etc.
- Support outreach efforts and secondary projects such as running workshops, providing in-class presentations,
etc.
- Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned
CNT faculty in ACSP are expected
to engage in service to the program, college, and university. CNT faculty at Villanova are eligible for promotion. Villanova offers a

Minimum QualificationsFormal
Education:- A terminal degree (e.g. Ph.D., MFA) in a fine art, humanities discipline, or social science at the time of
application.
Preferred Qualifications - Demonstrated (potential for) effective, innovative, student-centered
pedagogy.
- Experience teaching writing to undergraduates or working in an academic writing center.
