JOB SUMMARY
LakeVille Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Secondary Social Studies Teacher.

The LakeVille Board of Education will offer the successful candidate an annual salary range of $43,497 – $84,878 commensurate with their education, skill level, and prior experience. The successful candidate will also receive a complete and competitive fringe benefit package, including MESSA.

POSITION DETAILS:
Educators are expected to create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to master the course content; and establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

THE COMMUNITY:
LakeVille is located in the northeast portion of Genesee County and is home to several parks, recreational areas, beautiful lakes, and scenic rivers. Notable features include Genesee County Parks, which boasts a large lake, campground, and the extensive 21-mile Trails—a hiking and biking path that weaves throughout the township and surrounding areas.
As a rural community, LakeVille is characterized by strong community ties and a spirit of collaboration. THE DISTRICT:
LakeVille Community Schools serves approximately 1025 students in PreK-12th grade. The district has one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. LakeVille Community Schools also offers early childhood education serving 3 and 4-year-olds. All staff receive free early childhood education for 3 and 4-year-olds as well as free after-school programming. The district has implemented “The Leader in Me” curriculum based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The district is a 1:1 technology K-12 with all students having Chromebooks. The school culture and climate match the relaxed rural community feel. The district has an active, engaged, and supportive school board that is eager to provide the right resources to ensure the success of every child.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree; a valid Michigan teaching certificate, and meets Highly Qualified Requirements in Science.
  • Teaching Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements:
    • Social Studies (RX) or Social Science (CX) or (CQ).
    • History (CC) or (RC) or Geography (CB) or (RB).
    • Political Science (CD) may be considered
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administration, students, and parents;
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check as defined by the State of Michigan;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUGGESTED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Addition endorsements at the secondary level
  • A strong desire to engage in the broader school community, including coaching sports and mentoring extracurricular clubs or organizations .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches content using the courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Translates the curriculum into engaging and creative lesson plans that best utilize available instructional time.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each learner;
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Uses district assessments along with summative and formative assessments to evaluate student’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates regularly with parents through a variety of means such as phone calls, district student information systems, district approved applications, district email and other means.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to assess and help pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self–selected professional growth activities.
  • Selects and requisitions books, materials, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized tests per the district testing program.
  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsors pupil activities.
  • Participates in curriculum development as necessary.
  • Develop and implement progressive classroom-based interventions grounded in MTSS.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree minimum.
