Animal Control Officer - Part Time
The Town of Montville is seeking an experienced individual that is concerned for animal welfare and public safety. This is a unique opportunity for someone that is interested in working for a municipality and gaining experience as an Animal Control Officer.
Hours may vary, but must be available to work on some Fridays and weekends, other coverage as needed for FT Officer.
Rate: $19.80/hr.
As a fully trained Animal Control Officer (ACO), tasks and responsibilities will include enforcement of domestic animal protection laws to protect the safety and rights of the public and the welfare of domestic animals, responding to reports of vicious animals, animal pick-up and confinement, responding to complaints concerning animal problems or violations of animal control ordinances, including but not limited to animals running at large, bites, property damage, or injuries.
Patrols streets to locate and capture stray animals and transport them to the Town's pound or an animal shelter or hospital, as required.
Receives, cares for, feeds and houses impounded animals at the Town's pound; provides maintenance and upkeep for the pound.
Maintains records and files of the pound and the animals housed there; logs all incidents concerning animal control;
Compiles a variety of data regarding animal control activity; prepares daily, monthly, and annual reports of activities.
Investigates violations of animal control ordinances , submits detailed reports, and may issue warnings or citations to violators as required; appears in court to testify regarding animal control cases.
Serves various criminal or civil notices or papers related to enforcement of animal control ordinances.
Maintains normal availability by radio or telephone for consultation on major emergencies or precedent.
Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, and Town laws and ordinances;
Maintains contact with police supervisory personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provide mutual assistance during emergency situations and provides general information about Department activities.
Most work is performed in the field with considerable independence within the limits of current regulations, laws, codes, policies and accepted procedures.
Mandatory State of CT certification training required and will be provided by the Town.
Required Qualifications:
· Must have valid CT driver’s license with clean driving record
· Knowledge of canine and animal behavior, and techniques for caring for dogs.
· Ability to apprehend and care for dogs, including ability to lift medium to heavy weights.
· Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience in handling dogs and other animals, supplemented by course work in animal care.
